Olympics Birthday Party
I love the Olympics! And it just so happens that our oldest son’s bday fell right around opening day of the Summer Olympics this year! So it was a no brain-er as to what the theme for his birthday party was going to be! I had a ball planning this fun little shindig! Here is what we did:
Before the party, we made Olympic t-shirts for all of the kids that were coming to the party. We used fabric paint and a pickle jar to make the olympic rings and iron on letters (for their names). You can get these crafts at Hobby Lobby or at any craft store. While we were making the shirts, I taught our boys about the symbolism of the Olympic rings and a tad bit of history on how the Olympics originally started.
For the party, what better way to pretend like we are all part of the Olympics than taking them to open gym time at the gymnastics place! It was so joyful to watch their excitement of jumping in the foam pit and learning how to do a forward tuck on the rings!
After that, they all came back to our house where we had our own Olympic games. We had a relay race, basketball shoot-out, football toss and soccer kick “challenges” for our categories in our Olympic games. The kids had a blast. This was followed by cake, ice cream, cupcake olympic torches and present opening time!
And what are the Olympic games without a medal ceremony? We lined all the olympic champions up and presented them with their medals! They felt so special! It was cute to watch them each wait their turn to receive their gold medals!
Lastly, I filled their goodie bags with sweat bands, wrist bands, 1st place ribbons and orange slice candies (for the healthy effect). This party theme will go down as one of my favorites to plan! And….a great way for the kids to get their energy out while having a blast!
AFFIRMATION: I am a champion when I focus on my goals and achieve them! I am strong and able!
